Pilates is a well-established form of exercise that focuses on core strength, posture, flexibility, and controlled movement. At The Physio Studio, Pilates is used to help improve the way the body moves, reduce unnecessary strain on joints, and support better overall function in day-to-day life.
We use the Stott Pilates method, which has been developed using modern exercise science, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation principles. This makes Pilates suitable not only for general fitness, but also for people who want a more structured and guided approach to movement in a clinic-based setting.
By strengthening the muscles that support the spine, pelvis, and major joints, Pilates can help improve body awareness, stability, and movement control. It is often chosen by people who want to build strength in a low-impact way while also improving posture, flexibility, and coordination over time.
Why Choose Pilates at The Physio Studio
Pilates at The Physio Studio is different from a general class because it is delivered in a clinical setting and based on controlled, progressive movement. The emphasis is not simply on making exercises harder. It is on helping you move well, build strength properly, and get lasting benefit from the work you do.
This approach suits people who want more than a standard studio class. Some join because they want to improve strength and flexibility. Others want a more structured form of exercise that supports posture, body awareness, and better movement habits. In both cases, the focus stays on the quality of movement rather than speed or intensity alone.
Our classes are also supported by a physiotherapy treatment approach, which helps keep the environment practical, well-guided, and focused on how the body functions. That gives Pilates a clearer role within the clinic and makes it a strong option for people who want guided exercise in a more supportive setting.
Who Pilates Can Help
Pilates can suit a wide range of people, including beginners, active adults, and those who want a more controlled form of exercise. Because movements can be adapted and progressed gradually, it works well for people at different levels of confidence and experience.
At The Physio Studio, Pilates classes are chosen by people who want to improve movement, build core strength, and support better balance in day-to-day life. It also suits those who prefer exercise that is lower impact but still effective in developing strength, flexibility, and body control.
Some people join to support posture and movement quality. Others are looking for a more consistent approach to exercise that feels manageable and well-structured. The classes are designed to support steady progress rather than rushed repetition.

Pilates Classes Held Within the Clinic
We currently offer a range of Pilates classes within the clinic, each designed for different needs and levels.
Beginner’s Mat Work Classes
Our mat pilates classes provide a clear starting point for people who are new to Pilates and want to learn the basics properly. This is a 10-week course that includes one hour of one-to-one assessment, during which posture is analysed and the basic principles of Pilates are taught.
This also makes it a strong option for anyone looking for beginner's pilates classes in a more structured setting. The course helps build confidence, improve movement awareness, and create a stronger base before moving on to more advanced work.
Intermediate Classes
These are drop-in classes for people who have completed the beginner's course. The focus moves on to developing strength, control, and movement quality through more advanced exercises while still keeping the class structured and manageable.
Intermediate classes suit people who already understand the basic principles of Pilates and want to continue progressing in a clinic setting where movement quality still matters.
Pre-Natal Classes
Our prenatal pilates classes are offered as a 6-week course, normally during the second trimester or early third trimester. The course concentrates on re-balancing and strengthening the muscles of the body, supporting it as it goes through the postural changes relating to pregnancy.
These classes are designed to help women stay active in a way that feels controlled, supportive, and appropriate to the stage of pregnancy. The focus stays on posture, breathing, control, and strength rather than intensity.
Pilates for Golfers
This is a 6 to 8-week course concentrating on increasing core strength and improving spinal flexibility. The aim is to support better movement through the body and help improve consistency in the golf swing.
This class suits golfers who want to move more freely, develop better trunk control, and support the physical side of performance in a practical way.
What to Expect From a Pilates Class
Pilates classes at The Physio Studio focus on controlled movement rather than speed. The aim is to help you understand how to use the body well, develop stronger core support, and improve how you move both in class and outside of it.
Each class is structured to build awareness, control, and steady progress over time. Rather than rushing through exercises, the emphasis is placed on good technique, posture, breathing, and movement quality. This helps create a more useful and sustainable approach to exercise.
Over time, Pilates can support better posture, improved flexibility, and more efficient movement patterns. It can also help people feel more confident in how they move during everyday activity, exercise, and general physical demands.
